Week 7 Post 3-Enhancement

One thing that surprised me in my learning was how many things could be considered enhancements, as I never would have thought that something like taking medicine or getting a tutor would be considered an enhancement. I also disagreed with many of the ethical arguments this week, as I thought they made broad claims about humanity that I have not seen be the rule. On example is that if humans do not have the option of having an impairment then they are less compassionate for others, and if some people get enhancements and others do not those who get them will not have compassion for those who did not get them. I do not believe people have compassion for others only because they see the possibility that they could have been in the impaired person's shoes.

One question I have is what should the government's role be in regulating enhancements, and how much freedom do people have to get them? Another question I have is does the conversion around government subsidized and encouraged enhancements related to the COVID vaccine?

  1. Why do you think they covered things in the class that we would not consider genetic enhancements? What larger point do you think they were trying to make? Did the course seem to lean one way or another on the use of genetic enhancements?
